For $60.00 USD, this extension provides a way for you to accept credit cards on your Magento 1.x store and have the payments flow into your Square account dashboard, and keep all the accounting and bookkeeping in one place.

You must already have a Square account for this to work -- sign up at https://squareup.com/signup. Since this extension communicates with Square through its API, you will be subject to the pricing that corresponds to the API. As of this writing, the fee is 2.9% plus $0.30 per payment.

The use of HTTPS is required for this extension to work, as is mandated by Square.

PHP version 5.3+ is required.

This extension works by adding a new payment method to Magento. If enabled and supplied with valid Square information, the payment method will be available for use in both the front-end and the Admin Panel.

  • Support for saved credit cards (i.e. "Save for future use" and "Use card ending in -xxxx")
  • Allows creation of orders from both the front-end and Admin Panel.
  • Fully PCI-compliant -- no sensitive information ever reaches your server, it all stays between your customer and Square.
  • Supports both (a) "Authorize Only" for delayed capture, as well as (b) "Authorize and Capture" for immediate capture at the moment of purchase.
  • Supports Square's chargeback protection eligibility.
  • Works with with multiple 3rd party checkouts. We will make it compatible with any non-supported checkout upon request.


  1. Enable and refresh all caches (System > Cache Management > Select All > Refresh)
  2. Extract and upload extension files to the Magento installation folder
  3. Refresh all caches
  4. IF compilation is already enabled, recompile (System > Tools > Compilation > Run Compilation Process)
  5. Log out of Admin Panel and log back in
  6. Navigate to (System > Configuration > Sales > Payment Methods > Square)
  7. Next to "Square OAuth Permissions", click the link "Click here to authorize this extension with Square"
  8. After finishing the procedure at connect.squareup.com, refresh the Square payment method page in the Admin Panel
  9. Choose the "Location" of Square that payments should be associated with
  10. Verify other settings (Enabled, Title, Currency, Payment Action, New Order Status), then click "Save Config"
  11. To avoid having to click the "re-authorize" link every month or so, ensure the Magento cron is properly set up
